Disability Sport and Lord Sebastian Coe Visit DPS

We were delighted to welcome Lord Sebastian Coe to our school. His visit coincided with the team from NI Disability Sports presenting their “Five Star Disability Sports Challenge” to our pupils. This project is funded by DCAL and aims to increase our pupils awareness and understanding of disability and inspiring them to become more active in sport. A 30 minute interactive presentation was followed by workshops where 3 classes had the opportunity to experience 5 sports. Two of the presenters included Michael McKillop (Beijing 800m Gold Medallist and World Record Holder) and Aubrey Bingham (Wheelchair Tennis/Basketball Olympian).
In recognition of Dundonald being the first school in Northern Ireland to become a member of London 2012 Get Set Education Network, Lord Coe presented the school with a plaque. As we move towards London 2012 it is our intention to invite Dame Mary Peters and Janet Gray (blind World Champion Water Skier) back to the school to speak to our pupils.
